Coventry stunned Wolves with two goals in added time to secure their first FA Cup semi-final appearance since 1987.

The Championship outfit ran out 3-2 winners at Molineux in an enthralling encounter – with all five goals coming in the second half.

After being guilty of one of the misses of the season in the opening period, Ellis Simms bundled the ball home in the 53rd minute, with VAR allowing the goal to stand despite handball shouts.

Wolves were then lucky to avoid going down to ten men after Nelson Semedo’s horror foul, where they equalised almost immediately after through Rayan Ait-Nouri.

The hosts then took the lead in the 88th minute through Huegi Bueno’s first goal for the Midlands outfit.

But Simms then got the Sky Blues back on level terms with a header from close range in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

His second of the afternoon saw him become the first Coventry player since Keith Houchen in the 1986/87 season to score five goals in a single FA Cup campaign.

With the game seemingly poised for extra-time, Haji Wright then stepped up moments later to curl the ball into the bottom right corner.

It sparked jubilant scenes from the players and fans, with Coventry to now take part in just their second FA Cup semi-final.

And supporters will be hoping it is a good omen as the last time they reached the last four, they ended up winning the whole tournament having beaten Tottenham in the final 37 years ago.

Reacting to the scenes, ex-Premier League striker Dean Ashton said on talkSPORT commentary: “Astonishing. Absolutely astonishing.”

Speaking after the five-goal thriller to ITV Sport, Simms remarked: “A great occasion, the fans have been amazing and we’re just delighted.

“I’m so proud of the lads, we’ve dug in and even at 2-1 down we never gave up.

“It’s going to be a great occasion at Wembley. We want to go all the way.

“The next round will be tough against a top Premier League team, but we will give it our all and go in with all guns blazing.”

As for match-winner Wright, he stated: “There’s a lot of quality in our side and as long as we believe and keep trying, we can take our chances.

“It’s amazing to make it to Wembley and it will be good fun for all of us. Hopefully we can enjoy it [today] and then get back to work.

“Both me and Ellis didn’t have amazing starts here, but he [boss Mark Robins] believed in us and now we are in a spot where we can show ourselves.”

Coventry will now look forward to their fourth Wembley appearance since the 2016/17 campaign – the most of any non-Premier League side in that time.
