Manchester United fans were quick to rub salt in the wounds of Liverpool by mocking Jurgen Klopp from Old Trafford.
The Red Devils were in action against Sheffield United at the same time that the Reds were away at Everton at Goodison Park.
Incredibly, the Toffees ran out as 2-0 winners over their rivals thanks to goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in either half.
The result could have major implications on Liverpool‘s title pursuit as they now sit three points behind leaders Arsenal with just four games to go.
And in what is Klopp‘s final season at Anfield before departing, United supporters sang in unison at the Theatre of Dreams about the German following Calvert-Lewin’s header.
Fans could be heard singing: “Jurgen’s cracking up.”
Meanwhile Everton’s supporters broke into a rendition of, ‘You lost the league at Goodison Park’.
Liverpool were at once stage five points clear at the top of the Premier League earlier this year.
They were even tipped to complete a historic quadruple after they beat Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.
But their dreams were dealt a crushing blow after they were knocked out of the FA Cup quarter-final to United in a seven-goal thriller.
And just three weeks later, the Reds dropped points in the title race to United after being held to a 2-2 draw.
Further disappointment then came in the Europa League, where Serie A side Atalanta stunned Liverpool at Anfield by winning 3-0.
And despite the Reds emerging as 1-0 victors in the quarter-final second leg, it wasn’t enough to keep them in Europe’s second-tier competition.
Sandwiched between the two clashes, Liverpool also lost 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace in what was one of the biggest top-flights shocks this season.
And their chances of a second Premier League title now look to be slim after losing their first Merseyside derby at Goodison Park since 2010.
Should Manchester City beat Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Thursday night, they would leapfrog above Liverpool into second spot.
Next up for Klopp’s men is a trip to West Ham in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils secured a 4-2 victory at home to Sheffield United.
